Composition:
Each 5mL vial contains:
- Prednisone Acetate - 125 mg (25 mg/mL)
- Excipients: Sodium chloride, Water for injection, Sodium hydroxide (pH adjustment)
Description:
Prednisone Acetate is a synthetic corticosteroid with potent anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive properties. It is used to manage a wide range of inflammatory and autoimmune conditions.
Indications:
Prednisone Acetate Injection is indicated for the treatment of:
- Severe allergic reactions (anaphylaxis, angioedema)
- Asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) exacerbations
- Autoimmune disorders (rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, multiple sclerosis)
- Severe dermatological diseases (psoriasis, eczema)
- Endocrine disorders (adrenal insufficiency, congenital adrenal hyperplasia)
- Shock and severe inflammatory conditions
Dosage & Administration:
Intravenous (IV) or Intramuscular (IM) Injection:
- Adults: 25-125 mg once or twice daily, depending on severity
- Children: 1-2 mg/kg/day in divided doses
- Severe cases: Higher doses may be required, as directed by a physician
Administration:
- IV injection: Administer slowly over 1-2 minutes
- IM injection: Deep intramuscular administration recommended
- IV infusion: May be diluted with compatible solutions for slow infusion
Contraindications:
- Systemic fungal infections
- Hypersensitivity to prednisone or corticosteroids
- Live virus vaccinations during treatment
Precautions:
- Use with caution in patients with:
- Diabetes mellitus (may increase blood glucose levels)
- Hypertension and cardiovascular diseases
- Osteoporosis and long-term steroid use
- Peptic ulcer disease and gastrointestinal bleeding risk
Adverse Reactions:
- Common: Insomnia, mood changes, increased appetite, fluid retention
- Serious: Hypertension, hyperglycemia, adrenal suppression, osteoporosis, gastrointestinal ulcers
Drug Interactions:
- NSAIDs: Increased risk of gastrointestinal bleeding
- Antidiabetic drugs: May reduce efficacy
- Live vaccines: Increased risk of infection
- Diuretics: Risk of hypokalemia
Overdose & Management:
- Symptoms: Fluid retention, hypertension, hyperglycemia
- Treatment: Symptomatic management, gradual dose reduction if long-term use
