Rifampicin is a broad-spectrum antibiotic primarily used to treat tuberculosis (TB), leprosy, and other bacterial infections. It works by inhibiting bacterial RNA synthesis, effectively eliminating Mycobacterium tuberculosis and other pathogens.
Each capsule contains:
Tuberculosis (TB): First-line treatment for pulmonary and extrapulmonary TB, usually in combination with other anti-TB drugs.
Leprosy: Part of multi-drug therapy (MDT) for Hansen's disease.
Brucellosis & Legionnaires' Disease: Effective against certain bacterial infections.
Meningococcal Carrier State: Used as prophylaxis to eliminate Neisseria meningitidis.
Other Infections: Effective against Staphylococcus aureus, Mycobacterium avium complex (MAC), and some Gram-positive bacteria.
