Indications:
For the prevention and treatment of life-threatening or visually impaired patients with CMV infection and for the prevention of organ transplant patients associated with CMV infection.

Pharmacology and toxicology:
It is a synthetic guanine homologue that inhibits the replication of herpes virus in vivo and in vitro. Human viruses susceptible to this drug include cytomegalovirus (CMV), herpes simplex virus-1 (HSV-1), herpes simplex virus-2 (HSV-2), Epstein-Barr virus (African Lymphoblastoma virus), varicella zoster virus (VZV), and hepatitis B virus (HBV).
After phosphorylation to monophosphate in cytomegalovirus (CMV) -infected cells, further phosphorylation to Ganciclovir triphosphate is induced by several cell kinases. Cmv-infected cells had higher concentrations of cytokinases and ganciclovir triphosphates than uninfected cells. Therefore, ganciclovir phosphorylation is more likely to occur in virus-infected cells. In infected cells, ganciclovir triphosphate metabolism is slow. After 18 hours of removal of ganciclovir from extracellular fluid, 60-70% of the intracellular Ganciclovir triphosphate remained.
The antiviral action of this product is due to the inhibition of viral DNA synthesis: through the three phosphates of this product
1. Competitively inhibited the binding of deoxyguanosine triphosphate to DNA polymerase;
2. Binds viral DNA and prevents the elongation of DNA strands.
When the patient is clinically insensitive and continues to secrete virus during treatment, be aware of the possibility of viral resistance. Patients with CMV retinitis treated by long-term intravenous administration may also show resistance.
