Cefoperazone Sodium and Sulbactam Sodium for Injection 1g

Composition:

Each vial contains:

  • Cefoperazone Sodium 500mg
  • Sulbactam Sodium 500mg

Description:

Cefoperazone Sodium and Sulbactam Sodium for Injection is a combination of a third-generation cephalosporin (Cefoperazone) and a β-lactamase inhibitor (Sulbactam). This combination enhances the antibacterial activity of Cefoperazone by preventing bacterial resistance caused by β-lactamase enzymes.

Indications:

This injection is used for the treatment of infections caused by susceptible organisms, including:

  • Respiratory tract infections (pneumonia, bronchitis, lung abscess)
  • Urinary tract infections
  • Intra-abdominal infections (peritonitis, cholangitis, cholecystitis)
  • Sepsis and bacteremia
  • Gynecological infections (endometritis, pelvic inflammatory disease)
  • Skin and soft tissue infections
  • Bone and joint infections

Dosage & Administration:

  • Adults:
    • The usual dose is 1-2 g every 12 hours, administered via intravenous (IV) or intramuscular (IM) injection.
    • In severe infections, the dosage may be increased to 4 g per day in divided doses.
  • Children:
    • The recommended dose is 40-80 mg/kg/day in two divided doses.
  • Renal Impairment:
    • Dosage adjustments may be necessary in patients with severe renal dysfunction.

Administration:

  • Intravenous (IV) Infusion: Dissolve the contents of the vial in sterile water for injection and administer over 15-30 minutes.
  • Intramuscular (IM) Injection: Dissolve the vial contents in an appropriate volume of lidocaine solution (if applicable, per physician's recommendation) or sterile water.

Contraindications:

  • Patients with a history of severe allergic reactions to cephalosporins or penicillins.
  • Use with caution in patients with hepatic dysfunction.

Precautions:

  • A skin sensitivity test is recommended before administration, especially in allergic patients.
  • Use with caution in patients with renal or liver impairment, as dosage adjustments may be required.
  • Monitor for possible gastrointestinal side effects, such as diarrhea or pseudomembranous colitis.

Adverse Reactions:

  • Gastrointestinal: Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain.
  • Allergic Reactions: Rash, itching, anaphylaxis (rare).
  • Hepatic: Elevated liver enzymes (ALT, AST).
  • Hematologic: Changes in white blood cell count, prolonged prothrombin time.

Drug Interactions:

  • Concurrent use with aminoglycosides may increase nephrotoxicity risk.
  • Prolonged use with anticoagulants may increase bleeding tendencies.
  • Alcohol consumption should be avoided, as it may cause a disulfiram-like reaction (flushing, nausea, palpitations).

Storage Conditions:

  • Store below 25°C, protect from light and moisture.
  • Keep out of reach of children.
