Pharmacological action:
Sodium valproate is an antiepileptic drug.
The pharmacological action of sodium valproate is related to its concentration in plasma and brain, and its possible mechanism of action is to enhance the inhibition of GABA by affecting the synthesis or metabolism of γ-amino butyric acid (GABA).
It has been reported that valproate can stimulate HIV-1 replication in vitro, but studies on peripheral blood mononuclear cells of HIV-infected people have shown that sodium valproate does not have the pro-mitotic effect of inducing HIV replication. In fact, the effect of sodium valproate on HIV replication has mixed results, and the number of changes is small, and it seems to be independent of the dose, and there are no studies in humans.
