Ibuprofen Injection 800mg
Composition:
Each (X ml) contains:
- Ibuprofen .........… 800mg
- Excipients .........… (as required)
Description:
Ibuprofen is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that exhibits analgesic, anti-inflammatory, and antipyretic properties by inhibiting cyclooxygenase-1 (COX-1) and cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) enzymes, reducing prostaglandin synthesis.
Indications:
Ibuprofen Injection is indicated for:
- Moderate to severe pain (alone or with opioids)
- Fever reduction
- Postoperative pain management
- Inflammatory conditions such as arthritis
Dosage & Administration:
Intravenous Infusion Only
- Adults: 400-800mg every 6 hours, administered over at least 30 minutes
- Maximum daily dose: 3,200mg
- Pediatrics (if applicable): 10mg/kg every 6 hours, not exceeding 40mg/kg/day
- Use lowest effective dose for shortest duration possible
Contraindications:
- Hypersensitivity to ibuprofen, aspirin, or other NSAIDs
- Active peptic ulcer disease or gastrointestinal (GI) bleeding
- Severe renal or hepatic impairment
- Coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery perioperative pain
- History of NSAID-induced asthma or anaphylaxis
Precautions:
- Increased risk of cardiovascular events (stroke, myocardial infarction) with prolonged use
- May cause gastrointestinal bleeding, ulceration, and perforation
- Use with caution in renal impairment (monitor creatinine levels)
- Avoid in late pregnancy (≥30 weeks gestation) due to risk of premature ductus arteriosus closure
Adverse Reactions:
- Common: Nausea, vomiting, dizziness, headache, GI discomfort
- Serious: GI bleeding, liver dysfunction, kidney injury, hypertension, anaphylaxis
Drug Interactions:
- Increased risk of bleeding with anticoagulants (e.g., warfarin, heparin)
- Reduced antihypertensive effect of ACE inhibitors, and diuretics
- Increased nephrotoxicity with aminoglycosides and cyclosporine
- Avoid concomitant use with other NSAIDs
Overdose & Management:
- Symptoms: Nausea, vomiting, epigastric pain, renal failure, metabolic acidosis
- Treatment: Supportive care, activated charcoal (if early ingestion), IV fluids, and correction of electrolyte imbalances
Storage Conditions:
- Store below 25°C, protect from light
- Do not freeze
