Indications:
First-line and subsequent treatment of advanced ovarian cancer.
Adjuvant therapy after standard doxorubicin-containing chemotherapy in patients with lymph node positive breast cancer.
Patients with metastatic breast cancer who have failed combination chemotherapy or have recurred within six months of adjuvant chemotherapy.
First-line treatment for patients with non-small cell lung cancer.
Second-line treatment of AIDS-associated karnosarcoma.

Pharmacology and toxicology:
Taxol (paclitaxel) injection Paclitaxel is a novel anti-microtubule agent. Stabilizing the microtubules by promoting the combination of tubulin dimers and preventing their depolymerization inhibits the normal dynamic recombination of the micropipe network, which is essential for intermitotic and mitotic cell function. In addition, paclitaxel can cause abnormal arrangement of microtubule "bundles" throughout the cell cycle and mitosis when multiple stellates are produced, affecting the division of tumor cells.
The carcinogenicity of taxol (paclitaxel) has not been studied. The mutagenicity of Taxitin has been demonstrated in vitro (human lymphocyte chromosome aberration) and in vivo (mouse micronucleus) test systems in mammals, however, Taxitin does not induce mutation in Ames test or CHO/HGPRT gene mutagenicity test.
