Ambroxol Hydrochloride Injection 15mg/2ml
Composition:
Each 2mL ampoule contains:
- Ambroxol Hydrochloride - 15 mg
Description:
Ambroxol Hydrochloride is a mucolytic agent that enhances mucus clearance by stimulating surfactant production and increasing ciliary activity in the respiratory tract. It is used for conditions associated with excessive mucus production and respiratory distress.
Indications:
Ambroxol Hydrochloride Injection is indicated for:
- Acute and chronic respiratory diseases with abnormal mucus production (e.g., bronchitis, pneumonia, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease - COPD)
- Respiratory distress syndrome (RDS) in preterm infants
- Postoperative pulmonary complications due to retained secretions
- Facilitation of sputum clearance in mechanically ventilated patients
Dosage & Administration:
Adults & Children Over 12 Years:
- 15 mg-30 mg (1-2 ampoules) once or twice daily via IV injection or infusion
Children Under 12 Years:
- Under 2 years: 7.5 mg (0.5 ampoule) once or twice daily
- 2-5 years: 7.5 mg (0.5 ampoule) twice or three times daily
- 6-12 years: 15 mg (1 ampoule) twice or three times daily
Administration Method:
- Slow Intravenous Injection (IV push): Administer over 2 minutes
- Intravenous Infusion: Dilute in 0.9% NaCl, 5% glucose, or Ringer's solution and infuse over 30-60 minutes
Contraindications:
- Hypersensitivity to Ambroxol or any excipients
- Severe renal or hepatic impairment
- History of gastric ulceration (use with caution)
Precautions:
- Monitor renal and liver function in patients with pre-existing conditions
- Use with caution in patients with asthma due to risk of bronchospasm
- Adequate hydration is recommended to enhance mucolytic action
Adverse Reactions:
- Common: Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, dizziness, headache
- Rare but Serious: Severe allergic reactions, anaphylaxis, Stevens-Johnson syndrome
Drug Interactions:
- Antibiotics (Amoxicillin, Cefuroxime, Doxycycline): Ambroxol enhances their penetration into lung tissue
- Cough Suppressants: Avoid concurrent use as they may reduce mucus clearance
Overdose & Management:
- Symptoms: Nausea, vomiting, gastric discomfort
- Treatment: Symptomatic management, gastric lavage if necessary
Storage Conditions:
- Store below 25°C, protect from light
- Use immediately after opening
