Cefepime Sodium for Injection 1g

Composition:

Each vial contains:

• Cefepime Sodium equivalent to Cefepime 1g

Description:

Cefepime is a fourth-generation cephalosporin antibiotic with a broad spectrum of activity against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, including Pseudomonas aeruginosa. It is effective in treating severe bacterial infections, particularly in hospitalized and immunocompromised patients.

Indications:

Cefepime Sodium for Injection is used for the treatment of infections caused by susceptible bacteria, including:

• Respiratory tract infections (pneumonia, bronchitis)
• Urinary tract infections (UTIs), including complicated infections
• Intra-abdominal infections (peritonitis)
• Skin and soft tissue infections
• Febrile neutropenia
• Septicemia (bacteremia)
• Meningitis

Dosage & Administration:

• Adults and Adolescents (>12 years, ≥40 kg):
  • 1-2g every 8-12 hours via intravenous (IV) or intramuscular (IM) injection
  • For severe infections, up to 6g per day in divided doses
• Children (2 months - 12 years):
  • 50 mg/kg every 8-12 hours (maximum 2g per dose)
• Neonates (<2 months):
  • 30 mg/kg every 12 hours
• Febrile Neutropenia:
  • 2g IV every 8 hours
• Patients with Renal Impairment:
  • Dosage adjustment is required based on creatinine clearance

Administration:

• Intramuscular (IM): Dissolve in sterile water for injection or lidocaine solution (if recommended by a physician)
• Intravenous (IV): Dissolve in sterile water for injection or normal saline and administer as a slow IV injection over 3-5 minutes or IV infusion over 30 minutes

Contraindications:

• Hypersensitivity to Cefepime, cephalosporins, or penicillins

Precautions:

• Perform a skin sensitivity test before administration in allergic patients
• Use with caution in patients with renal impairment
• Monitor for neurological side effects, especially in renally impaired patients

Adverse Reactions:

• Gastrointestinal: Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea
• Allergic Reactions: Rash, pruritus, anaphylaxis (rare)
• Hematologic: Leukopenia, thrombocytopenia
• Hepatic: Elevated liver enzymes (ALT, AST)
• Neurological: Seizures (rare, mainly in renally impaired patients)

Drug Interactions:

• May enhance the nephrotoxicity of aminoglycosides
• Prolonged use with anticoagulants may increase bleeding risk
