Moxifloxacin Hydrochloride and Sodium Chloride Injection 250ml: 0.4g

Composition:

Each 250ml contains:

  • Moxifloxacin Hydrochloride equivalent to Moxifloxacin 0.4g (400mg)
  • Sodium Chloride (sufficient quantity for isotonicity)

Description:

Moxifloxacin is a broad-spectrum fluoroquinolone antibiotic with activity against Gram-positive, Gram-negative, and atypical bacteria. It works by inhibiting bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, preventing DNA replication and bacterial growth. The sodium chloride component helps maintain electrolyte balance.

Indications:

Moxifloxacin Hydrochloride and Sodium Chloride Injection is indicated for the treatment of bacterial infections caused by susceptible organisms, including:

  • Community-acquired pneumonia (CAP)
  • Complicated skin and soft tissue infections
  • Complicated intra-abdominal infections
  • Acute bacterial sinusitis
  • Acute exacerbation of chronic bronchitis

Dosage & Administration:

Adults (≥18 years):

  • 400mg IV once daily (infused over 60 minutes)
  • Duration:
    • Pneumonia: 7-14 days
    • Skin infections: 7-21 days
    • Intra-abdominal infections: 5-14 days

Pediatric Use:

  • Not recommended due to potential joint toxicity.

Renal Impairment:

  • No dosage adjustment required.

Hepatic Impairment:

  • Use with caution in patients with severe hepatic dysfunction.

Administration:

  • Intravenous (IV) infusion only
  • Infuse over 60 minutes
  • Do NOT mix with other IV medications
  • No further dilution required

Contraindications:

  • Hypersensitivity to Moxifloxacin, other fluoroquinolones, or excipients
  • Pregnant and breastfeeding women (unless necessary)
  • Patients with myasthenia gravis due to risk of respiratory failure

Precautions:

  • QT Prolongation: Avoid use in patients with known QT prolongation, uncorrected electrolyte imbalance, or those taking other QT-prolonging drugs.
  • Tendon Rupture Risk: Increased risk, especially in elderly patients and those on corticosteroids.
  • Peripheral Neuropathy: Discontinue if symptoms occur.
  • Hypoglycemia/Hyperglycemia: Monitor blood glucose in diabetic patients.
  • Clostridium difficile-Associated Diarrhea (CDAD): Consider discontinuation if severe diarrhea occurs.

Adverse Reactions:

  • Cardiovascular: QT prolongation, tachycardia
  • Neurologic: Dizziness, headache, insomnia, peripheral neuropathy
  • Gastrointestinal: Nausea, diarrhea, abdominal pain
  • Musculoskeletal: Tendinitis, tendon rupture (rare)
  • Hepatic: Elevated liver enzymes
  • Injection Site Reactions: Phlebitis, pain

Drug Interactions:

  • QT-prolonging agents (e.g., amiodarone, quinidine): Increased risk of arrhythmia.
  • NSAIDs: May increase the risk of CNS effects (e.g., seizures).
  • Warfarin: May enhance anticoagulant effects.
  • Antidiabetic drugs: Risk of blood glucose fluctuations.

Storage Conditions:

  • Store below 25°C, protect from light.
  • Do NOT freeze.
  • Use immediately after opening.
