  • Gemcitabine Hydrochloride for Injection (200 mg) is a nucleoside analog used as a chemotherapy agent, which works by interfering with DNA synthesis, ultimately leading to cancer cell death. It is commonly used in the treatment of several types of cancers.

Indications:

Gemcitabine is indicated for:

  • Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer (NSCLC): Often used in combination with cisplatin.
  • Pancreatic Cancer: As a single agent for locally advanced or metastatic cases.
  • Breast Cancer: Typically used with paclitaxel for locally advanced or metastatic cases.
  • Bladder Cancer: Used with cisplatin for advanced or metastatic cases.

Administration:

  • Infusion: Administer as an intravenous infusion over 30 minutes. Longer infusions can increase the risk of toxicity.
  • Line Flush: Ensure the IV line is flushed before and after gemcitabine infusion to avoid mixing with other drugs.

Precautions:

  • Blood Counts: Monitor frequently to detect any hematologic toxicities early.
  • Renal and Liver Function: Adjustments may be necessary in patients with impaired kidney or liver function.
  • Pregnancy and Breastfeeding: Contraindicated as it may harm the fetus or infant.
  • Hydration: Encourage adequate fluid intake to help with renal clearance of the drug.
