Ceftriaxone Sodium for Injection
Each vial contains Ceftriaxone Sodium equivalent to 250mg, 500mg, 1g, or 2g of Ceftriaxone.
Ceftriaxone Sodium for Injection is a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic. It is effective against a wide range of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis. The injectable form is suitable for severe infections or when oral administration is not feasible.
Ceftriaxone is indicated for the treatment of infections caused by susceptible bacteria, including:
Respiratory tract infections (e.g., pneumonia, bronchitis)
Urinary tract infections (e.g., pyelonephritis)
Skin and soft tissue infections (e.g., cellulitis, abscesses)
Bone and joint infections (e.g., osteomyelitis)
Intra-abdominal infections (e.g., peritonitis)
Meningitis
Septicemia
Gonorrhea
Adults and children ≥12 years:
Mild to moderate infections: 1-2g once daily, intravenously or intramuscularly.
Severe infections: 2-4g once daily, intravenously.
Children <12 years:
Dosage: 50-75mg/kg body weight per day, divided into 1-2 doses, intravenously or intramuscularly.
Administration: Reconstitute the vial with sterile water for injection or compatible IV fluids. Administer by slow intravenous injection or infusion over 30 minutes, or as an intramuscular injection.
Common side effects may include:
Gastrointestinal disturbances (e.g., nausea, vomiting, diarrhea)
Allergic reactions (e.g., rash, itching)
Injection site reactions (e.g., pain, redness)
Serious side effects (e.g., severe allergic reactions, Clostridioides difficile-associated diarrhea) are rare but require immediate medical attention.
Hypersensitivity to ceftriaxone, other cephalosporins, or any component of the formulation.
History of severe allergic reactions (e.g., anaphylaxis) to beta-lactam antibiotics.
Neonates with hyperbilirubinemia or those requiring calcium-containing IV solutions.
Consult a doctor before use if you have a history of kidney disease, liver disease, or gastrointestinal disease.
Regular monitoring of kidney and liver function is recommended during prolonged use.
Discontinue use and consult a doctor if severe diarrhea or abdominal pain occurs.
Calcium-containing solutions: May cause precipitation when co-administered with ceftriaxone. Avoid simultaneous use.
Aminoglycosides: May increase the risk of kidney toxicity.
Oral anticoagulants (e.g., warfarin): May increase the risk of bleeding. Monitor INR closely.
Before reconstitution: Store in a cool, dry place (below 25°C), away from direct sunlight.
After reconstitution: Use immediately or store in the refrigerator (2-8°C) for up to 24 hours. Do not freeze.
