Moxifloxacin is a fourth-generation fluoroquinolone antibiotic that inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, essential enzymes for DNA replication, transcription, and repair.
This action leads to bacterial cell death and prevents further growth of susceptible organisms.
Recommended Dosage:
Adults: 400mg (250ml) once daily, administered intravenously.
Duration of Treatment: Typically 7-14 days, depending on the type and severity of the infection.
Administration:
Must be administered as a slow intravenous infusion over 60-90 minutes.
Can be switched to oral moxifloxacin (400mg once daily) once the patient's condition improves.
