Indications:
Ribavirin Injection is indicated for:
- Chronic Hepatitis C Virus (HCV) infection (in combination with interferon therapy)
- Severe Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) infections
- Hemorrhagic fevers caused by Arenaviruses (e.g., Lassa fever)
Dosage & Administration:
Chronic Hepatitis C (with Interferon α-2b):
- Adults: 1,000-1,200 mg/day (divided into 2 doses)
- Duration: 24-48 weeks depending on genotype
Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) Infection:
- Aerosolized therapy: 20 mg/mL solution administered via nebulizer for 12-18 hours/day for 3-7 days
- IV therapy (severe cases): 15-20 mg/kg/day divided into 3 doses for 5-7 days
Hemorrhagic Fever (Lassa Fever, Arenavirus Infections):
- Loading dose: 30 mg/kg IV
- Maintenance dose: 15 mg/kg IV every 6 hours for 4 days, then 7.5 mg/kg every 8 hours for 6 days

Precautions:
- Avoid pregnancy during and 6 months after treatment (use contraception)
- Monitor hemoglobin levels (risk of hemolytic anemia)
- Use caution in patients with cardiovascular disease
Adverse Reactions:
- Common: Fatigue, nausea, headache, anemia, insomnia
- Serious: Hemolytic anemia, liver toxicity, depression, teratogenic effects
Drug Interactions:
- Didanosine (HIV treatment): Increased toxicity risk
- Azathioprine: Increased risk of bone marrow suppression
- Interferon α-2b: Increased effectiveness but higher side effects
Overdose & Management:
- Symptoms: Severe anemia, nausea, confusion
