Composition:

Each capsule contains:

• Cefadroxil (as Cefadroxil Monohydrate) 250mg

Description:

Cefadroxil is a first-generation cephalosporin antibiotic with broad-spectrum activity against Gram-positive and some Gram-negative bacteria. It is commonly used to treat bacterial infections of the respiratory tract, skin, urinary tract, and soft tissues.

Indications:

Cefadroxil Capsules 250mg are indicated for the treatment of infections caused by susceptible bacteria, including:

• Upper respiratory tract infections (pharyngitis, tonsillitis)
• Lower respiratory tract infections (bronchitis)
• Skin and soft tissue infections (cellulitis, impetigo)
• Urinary tract infections (UTIs) (cystitis, pyelonephritis)

Dosage & Administration:

• Adults & Adolescents (≥12 years or ≥40 kg):
  • 500mg to 1g every 12 or 24 hours, depending on infection severity
• Children (≥6 months - 12 years):
  • 25-50 mg/kg/day in two divided doses
• Renal Impairment:
  • Dose adjustment required if creatinine clearance <50 mL/min

Administration:

• Can be taken with or without food.
• Swallow the capsule whole with water.

Contraindications:

• Hypersensitivity to Cefadroxil, cephalosporins, or penicillins.

Precautions:

• Use with caution in patients with renal impairment.
• Monitor for gastrointestinal disturbances, including diarrhea.
• May cause false-positive urine glucose test in diabetic patients.

Adverse Reactions:

• Gastrointestinal: Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain.
• Allergic Reactions: Rash, itching, anaphylaxis (rare).
• Hematologic: Leukopenia, thrombocytopenia (rare).
• Hepatic: Temporary increase in liver enzymes (ALT, AST).

Drug Interactions:

• Probenecid may increase cefadroxil levels.
• May interfere with oral contraceptives.
