Composition:

Description:

Piroxicam is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) with analgesic, anti-inflammatory, and antipyretic properties. It works by inhibiting cyclooxygenase (COX-1 and COX-2) enzymes, thereby reducing the production of prostaglandins, which are responsible for pain, inflammation, and fever.

Indications:

• Osteoarthritis
• Rheumatoid arthritis
• Ankylosing spondylitis
• Musculoskeletal disorders
• Postoperative and traumatic pain relief

Dosage & Administration:

For Oral Use Only.

Adults:

• 20mg once daily OR
• 10mg twice daily (if better tolerated in divided doses)

Special Populations:

• Elderly patients: Use with caution, start with a lower dose if necessary
• Patients with hepatic or renal impairment: Adjust dose under medical supervision

Administration:

• Take with food or milk to minimize gastrointestinal discomfort
• Swallow whole with a full glass of water
• Avoid alcohol while taking this medication

Contraindications:

• Known hypersensitivity to Piroxicam or other NSAIDs
• History of NSAID-induced gastrointestinal bleeding or perforation
• Active peptic ulcer disease
• Severe hepatic or renal impairment
• Third trimester of pregnancy

Warnings & Precautions:

• Increased risk of cardiovascular events (e.g., heart attack, stroke) with long-term use
• May cause gastrointestinal bleeding, ulceration, or perforation
• Avoid in patients with severe hypertension or heart failure
• Use caution in patients with asthma or a history of allergic reactions to NSAIDs

Adverse Reactions:

• Serious: Gastrointestinal bleeding, peptic ulcers, hypertension, kidney dysfunction

Drug Interactions:

• Increased risk of bleeding with anticoagulants (e.g., warfarin)
• May reduce the effectiveness of antihypertensive drugs (e.g., ACE inhibitors)
• Increased risk of nephrotoxicity with diuretics or aminoglycosides
• Should not be used with other NSAIDs to avoid toxicity
