Caspofungin Acetate for Injection 50mg
Composition:
Each vial contains:
- Caspofungin Acetate equivalent to 50mg of Caspofungin
Description:
Caspofungin Acetate is an echinocandin antifungal that inhibits β-(1,3)-D-glucan synthase, an enzyme essential for fungal cell wall synthesis. It is effective against Candida and Aspergillus species.
Indications:
Caspofungin Acetate for Injection is indicated for:
- Invasive candidiasis, including candidemia
- Invasive aspergillosis (refractory to other antifungals)
- Empirical therapy for febrile neutropenia in suspected fungal infections
Dosage & Administration:
Intravenous (IV) Use Only
Administer via slow IV infusion over 1 hour.
Adult Dosage:
- Empirical therapy (febrile neutropenia): 70mg IV on Day 1, followed by 50mg IV daily
- Invasive candidiasis: Loading dose 70mg IV, then 50mg IV daily
- Invasive aspergillosis (salvage therapy): 70mg IV on Day 1, followed by 50mg IV daily
Pediatric Dosage (≥3 months old):
- Loading dose: 70mg/m² IV on Day 1
- Maintenance dose: 50mg/m² IV daily
Preparation & Administration:
- Reconstitute each 50mg vial with 10mL sterile water for injection (final concentration 5mg/mL)
- Further dilute in normal saline (0.9% NaCl) or 5% dextrose
- Administer via slow IV infusion over 1 hour
- Do not mix or infuse with other medications
Contraindications:
- Hypersensitivity to Caspofungin or any echinocandin antifungals
Precautions:
- Monitor liver function (dose adjustments in hepatic impairment)
- Caution in renal impairment
- Not recommended in pregnancy unless necessary
Adverse Reactions:
- Common: Fever, headache, nausea, rash
- Serious: Hepatotoxicity, hypersensitivity reactions, infusion-related reactions
Drug Interactions:
- Reduced efficacy with rifampin, efavirenz, phenytoin
- Monitor liver enzymes when used with cyclosporine
Overdose & Management:
- Symptoms: Liver enzyme elevation, infusion-related reactions
- Treatment: Supportive care, no specific antidote
Storage Conditions:
- Store below 25°C, protect from light
- Use reconstituted solution within 24 hours (if refrigerated at 2-8°C)
